The Beat Farmers' barroom band reading of 'There She Goes' and REM's irreverent version of 'After Hours' spring to mind.
can't really argue with your choice; it's my fave too.
The True Believer's "Sweet Jane" cover is excellent as are Escovedo's array of subsequent ones. The Troobs mashup of "Foggy Notion" with Iggy's "Search & Destroy" is amazing, one of the best things ever.
Cat Power's I found a Reason, Mick Ronson's White Light/White Heat, Psychic TV's Foggy Notion...some Britbands version of "What Goes On."
Amazing songs often begat amazing covers...hey, 5000 fans can't be wrong
