Who's Gonna Grieve
"Where's Willie John? Dead so long, born to fall, nothing at all..." That's Mark Lanegan of course, singing his own special kind of blues. Dude knows his classics, too: "She never knew how much I loved her, never knew how much I cared..." Indeed. Which bring us to Little Willie John (1937-1968), an exceptionally fine soul singer from the motor city. Just in case you didn't know: Fever (later made famous by Peggy Lee), and Need Your Love So Bad (covered by Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac) were John originals.

I'm a big Little Willie John fan, thanks for posting the Mark Lanegan song which was unfamiliar to me. It should be said, however, that Fever, while originally recorded by Little Willie, was written by Eddie Cooley and Otis Blackwell, and I Need Your Love So Bad was written by Willie's brother Mertis.
Thanks Hugh. By saying they were John originals I didn't mean to say LWJ actually wrote them, just that he performed them first. Sorry for the confusion.
